Spring!

Yay! Spring is here!

It's spring cleaning time which means I'm finally getting around to some of those jobs that have been bugging me all winter. The trim on the bedroom windows and kitchen window were painted today and I also got around to washing the upstairs windows too.

Liam and I went for a run today and when I got home he was fast asleep. I let him have a little nap outside - don't worry grandmas, I checked on him frequently. In Europe, they often put their babies outside to nap in the fresh air!

I, in the meantime, took the opportunity to wash the outside of the windows...I think Liam got the better end of this deal!

Nialle's grandad is undergoing chemo for lung cancer and has begun to lose his hair. Solution? Knit him a mohawk!

Done!

I finished Liam's sweater today! Here's the finished product...

I put it on Liam to see how it would fit...well...he'll grow into it, right? The pictures that I took are just so cute I have to post them all!

A Piece of History

Nialle and I made the neatest discovery today when we found out that the local antique store in town bought out an antique store in Doesburg, Holland. There are a lot of prints and postcards from Doesburg, not to mention gorgeous antiques!

Seeing as my family is from the town of Doesburg and my maiden name is Van Doesburg, I just couldn't pass these goodies up!

an old print of the town...
it has yellowed and has some water damage, but I think that adds to the charm!

a newer print (from 1989) - not an antique, but still beautiful
and my favorite, a postcard of the town of Doesburg from 1899 - it has a 2 1/2 cent stamp!

Anemoi Mittens

My mother-in-law found some yarn at the second hand store and asked me to make her a pair of mittens. I had to do some searching, but managed to find a pattern that called for fingering yarn. This was my first attempt at colour stranding and the first project I've knit only on double pointed needles. I think the results are pretty good! The only bad thing about these mittens is that they're a little long for her fingers, but we'll just say that I've left room for a manicure!

The mittens were very fuzzy and I found it hard to "read" the pattern. But that problem was easily remedied by taking Nialle's beard trimmer to them and giving them a little shave.

(Nialle, if you're reading this - please don't hurt me! I did it all in the name of fashion!)

I love how they look like an antique pair of Scandinavian mittens!

What are your Grandmothers going to have to say about this?

To the Grandmothers:

I'm very sorry - Liam got a hold of a pen. I know, I know - he could have poked his eye out.

Don't you think pen on his face suits him?

I think I hear social services knocking at my door.

New High Chair

Liam got his first "big boy" high chair this weekend and he is quite pleased with himself! He loves to sit up with Nialle and me at the table. So far, he is ravenous over apples and sweet potatoes - atta boy!

Hear ye, hear ye - I am a big boy now!
